Manufacturing and toughening effects on the material properties of wind turbine blade adhesives

Hybrid adhesives can be developed using commercially available adhesive materials and customized to the required loading conditions. In this paper, SPABOND™ 820HTA (non-toughened) 840HTA (toughened) are hybridized by two strategies fabricated machine manual mixing methods. The manufacturing hybridization effects on bulk properties evaluated dynamic mechanical analysis, quasi-static tensile, V-notch shear single-edge-notch bending tests. X-ray micro-computed tomography, digital image correlation technique, high speed camera scanning electron microscopic images used for assessing quality, computing full-field displacement strain, failure analysis. By considering methods, measured less influenced presence of voids but dependent glass fiber filler orientation. toughening method improves strain tensile toughness, decreases strength modulus no significant effect transition temperature.
